Yoga Games

Yoga is a wonderful way to open your child to the awareness of their place in the world. Each class will focus on a lesson or theme and will include creative yoga flow, breath work, games, stories, music, partner/group activities, visualization and relaxation. Through yoga, your child will develop strength, flexibility, self-confidence, balance, coordination, focus and discover the ability to feel calm.

Instructor: Ms. Brandon Hudson, RCYT, E-RYT, MAT, is a yoga teacher, children’s yoga teacher, a children’s yoga teacher trainer, and a trained yoga therapist that has over 15 years' experience working with both children and adults.

Medieval Swordplay

2:15-3:15*, grade range: 3-8

*This club has a cost of $185

The Medieval Swordplay Club has extended to a 90 minute session! We will play many more games in the longer time period, and be able to learn even more about how to play the game both competitively and cooperatively! We teach students to compete in a nationally organized sport known generally as boffer sword fighting, and utilize all kinds of foam padded gear constructed professionally to safely act as full-contact swords, shields, bows, and arrows. Each class is set up by The Wandering Swordsmen to guide players through many different game modes of the super fun and fast growing sport, including capture the flag, bomb the base, and legendary shields! Each class is also designed to help teach players how to engage in "Compassionate Combat," which means participating in boffer swordplay with clear understanding and respect for player consent, safety, and honor. Come check out our donation based games on Sundays at Carrier Park from 1-3pm all year long, and join this club to learn how to become a modern day peaceful warrior!

Instructor: Phil Ferguson, leader of The Wandering Swordsmen, with 7 years of professional experience teaching the sport to both children and adults, and 14 years of national competition experience. http://wanderingswordsman.com/

Gone Fishing!

3:30-5:30, grade range: 4-8

This club has a cost of $150

Spend the afternoon chasing Bluegill, Channel Catfish, Bass and even Trout.  We'll host a Fishing Tournament with prizes for the Biggest Catfish, Smallest Fish, and the Most Fish Caught. We'll try spinning rods on ponds, and fly rods on the river.  What's your favorite bait to use?  Try topwater lures, skimmers, jigs, and all kinds of flies.  If this is your first time baiting a hook, or you’re a seasoned fisherman with your own Tall Tales, all experience levels are welcome to join us for Fishing Club and get hooked! Bring your own rod and reel (we have a loaner or two!), and we’ll provide tackle, bait and a local guide to East Asheville’s hottest fishing holes.

Instructor: Erin Lowe, Evergreen 4th Grade Associate

Adventure Team: Advanced Mountain Biking

2:00-6:00, grade range: 4-8

Hard work pays off. Once you’ve put in the sweat equity of riding hard and fixing flats and you have demonstrated your competence in completing the beginner and intermediate ECCS mountain bike progressions- we are ready to bring you to the harder trails and work on the advanced progression checklist. We intend to travel off campus for most club sessions. Possible locations include North Mills River, Richmond Hill, Lake James, Dupont State Park, and Warren Wilson College.

Given the advanced nature of this club, you will need to complete the ECCS Advanced Mountain Biking Checklist by March 12th.

See ya on the trails!

Can't decide? Due to Evergreen's earlier Monday dismissal time, club times have been staggered to allow Evergreen students to choose between the following double options. Please be sure to heed grade ranges.

  • Yoga and Art & Science - $170 (K-2nd)

  • Swordplay and Fishing - $200/$220 (4th-8th)

  • Swordplay and PUSH - $260/$280 (4th-8th)
