Spring Clubs 2018 Mondays

Monday clubs this Spring begin on March 12th and run eight Mondays. After schedule changes for several club, here are the current ending dates for each:

-All are finished except Swordplay, which will have the final session on June 4th.

Yoga

​2:15-3:15, grade range: K-2

 

Yoga is a wonderful way to open your child to the awareness of their place in the world. Each class will focus on a lesson or theme and will include creative yoga flow, breath work, games, stories, music, partner/group activities, visualization and relaxation. Through yoga, your child will develop strength, flexibility, self-confidence, balance, coordination, focus and discover the ability to feel calm.

Instructor: Ms. Brandon Hudson, RCYT, E-RYT, MAT, is a yoga teacher, children’s yoga teacher, a children’s yoga teacher trainer, and a trained yoga therapist that has over 15 years' experience working with both children and adults.

Medieval Swordplay

2:15-3:15, grade range: 3-8

*Medieval Swordplay has a cost of $155

 

Join Asheville's growing swordplay community, and play fun new games created by students! Learn swordplay skills, honor, discipline, and teamwork! Each session this year we will specialize in teaching the tactics for a different gear set, such as swords, spears, or archery.

Upcycled Art

4:00-5:30, grade range: K-3

 

This club will focus on making creative art with natural, recycled or pre-owned things that others might usually consider broken or regard as trash. Parents are encouraged to bring in old masks, hats, clothes,  etc. for the kids to use for materials. Craft projects will be determined primarily by child interest, but some possible ideas are: Hair clips/Hairbands, Animal Ear Hair Clips, Flower and Feather pens, Dream Catchers/Wind Chimes, Arm and leg warmers, Masks, Redesigned Clothes, Technicolor Vases, and/or Notebook/Journals. Materials may include recycled paper, broken jewelry pieces, salvaged feathers, buttons, ribbons, mechanical parts and fabric from previously used items like clothes and toys.

Minecraft™

​4:00-5:00, grade range: 2-8

 

Crazy about Minecraft? Curious but have never played? Come learn how to play, work on your world, collaborate with others, and explore the amazing world of Minecraft. We welcome players of all skills, no experience necessary.

PUSH Your Limits!

​3:30-4:30 grade range: 3-8

Cost: This club will run in two 4-week sessions, each costing $90

Learn all about skateboarding, while building the skills to skate safely and creatively! No experience is necessary to participate in this program. There will be a variety of skate-able obstacles for us to all skate together. Students are asked to bring their own skateboard and helmet, and elbow/knee pads are also recommended. Instructors Eric Hunt and Rob Sebrell of PUSH Skateshop have been skateboarding for over 20 years, and run the annual PUSH Skate Camp. Sign up and join the Push Skate Club and get ready to rip and have some fun!

I'd Rather Be Fishing

3:30-5:30, grade range: 4-8

Cost: $145 (covers tackle!)

Spend the afternoon chasing Bluegill, Channel Catfish, Bass and even Trout.  If this is your first time baiting a hook, or you’re a seasoned fisherman with your own Tall Tales, join us for Fishing Club and get hooked! Bring your own rod and reel, we’ll provide tackle, bait and a local guide to East Asheville’s hottest fishing holes.

Adventure Team: Advanced Mountain Biking

2:30-5:00, grade range: 5-8

*This Adventure Team club has a cost of $220

Hard work pays off. Once you’ve put in the sweat equity of riding hard and fixing flats and you have demonstrated your competence in completing the beginner and intermediate ECCS mountain bike progressions- we are ready to bring you to the harder trails and work on the advanced progression checklist. We intend to travel off campus for most club sessions. Given the advanced nature of this club, you will need to complete the ECCS Advanced Mountain Biking Checklist by March 5th.

Can't decide? Due to Evergreen's earlier Monday dismissal time, club times have been staggered to allow Evergreen students to choose between the following double options. Please be sure to heed grade ranges.

  • Yoga and Upcycled Art - $165 (K-2nd)

  • Yoga and Minecraft - $165 (2nd grade only)

  • Swordplay and Upcycled Art - $190 (3rd grade only)

  • Swordplay and Minecraft - $190 (3rd-8th)

  • Swordplay and Skateboarding $220 (3rd-8th) *adding the second Skateboarding session will be an additional $65

  • Swordplay and Fishing - $200 (4th-8th)
